Why You Need Creativity

How much creativity do you apply to life?

In the midst of your activity, find time for some creativity. You need it. If there is a shortage that’s evident almost everywhere, it’s a lack of creativity.

The ability to imagine what life would be like before it comes to pass… That capacity to picture improvements and what it takes to make them happen… These are crucial to every new project. Yet, how many of us find it hard to conceive what is yet to be?

Take house hunting for example. Walk into a house, beautifully decorated with someone else’s furnishings, and we might instantly be smitten with the feel of the place. Now picture that same house, empty, with not a stick of furniture to be seen. Many, I imagine, would walk inside that same home and miss its potential completely.

Creativity helps us capture the gift of opportunities. When you can imagine how someone else might feel you can envisage how you can help. Likewise, when a job or business opportunity comes your way, creativity lets you look at it inside and out. Creativity opens the door to possibilities in ways our past cannot reveal. By building a bridge between problems and solutions, it can even sooth a hurting heart. Creativity is truly a wonderful skill.

Notice I said “skill” not “gift”? Everyone, you and I included, can increase our capacity for creativity. That gets me excited because it offers us such enormous potential. That’s also why you should never cut yourself down because someone thinks you’re not particularly creative. As one of those awe-inspiring qualities, creativity develops the more you apply it. Use it with kindness and it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Today’s technology offers so many amazing tools. But the limitless power of human creativity is a strength you and I have barely touched.
