How to Get a Deep Sound Sleep

March 11th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 32 secs

Ahh! Now that’s how you get a deep sound sleep.

Let me ask you something: have you ever had trouble getting a good night’s sleep? There are umpteen ideas on how to beat lack of sleep, just as there are for getting to sleep in the first place. But answering the question of how to get a deep sound sleep? That can be complicated.

First the simple stuff. For those who suffer frequent lack of sleep, here  are a few practical tips. Get rid of all the screen and phone technology in your bedroom. After all you’re there to rest, not take calls and keep up with breaking events. So avoid noise and allow calm darkness to help you relax. By keeping the world out of your bedroom you help make it a place of peace.

Pat down your house in good time and switch off the TV and computer at least an hour before heading for bed. Eat a few hours beforehand too, so you can avoid those slices of pizza doing the lambada in your stomach. Then do the Goldilocks thing in your bedroom, making sure it’s not too hot and not too cold, but just right. These are the basics. Now for stage two.

What’s on your mind as you lie awake? Are you feeling bad that you’re not sleeping, or ruminating about the day’s events? If your mind is overly active, try reading in bed with only your reading lamp on.

Not only can a good read help settle your mind, but the same applies if you increase your exercise level. Work your body hard enough on a daily basis and you get an extra bonus. Sleep has a way of finding you!

If these things aren’t enough and you’re still wondering, “how to get a deep sound sleep?” then consider getting outside help.

Talk to a considerate doctor or a skilled psychologist. Both will have ideas that could be a big help. If the issue is persistent insomnia then getting expert attention is your best strategy. Meantime, I’ll just shut my eyes for a wee bit, in sympathy of course, and test out my bed…
