25 Cities and Towns to Remember

June 29th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 0 mins, 59 secs

Australia has more than its share of cities and towns to remember (including Stinkpot Bay)

Living in Australia, there are plenty of cities and towns to remember. They come to mind, not just for their sense of place, but also their memorable names. Some immediately come to mind and I’ve listed them below. To get the most out of these unique cities and towns, I recommend reading them out loud. Perhaps, if you’re lucky, you might even be able to visit a few of them one day (Now, wouldn’t that be a feather in your cap?):

  1. Bogabilla
  2. Gingin
  3. Grong Grong
  4. Koo Wee Rup
  5. Bunyip
  6. Nar Nar Goon
  7. Christmas Island (the perfect compliment to Easter Island)
  8. Hay
  9. Woolloomoolloo
  10. Snug
  11. Burrumbuttock
  12. Mooball
  13. Nowhere Else
  14. Wagga Wagga (pronounced “Woggah Woggah”)
  15. Come By Chance
  16. “Doo Town” (where the locals put signs on their houses like, “This’ll Do”
  17. Stinkpot Bay (not a town but a great place down the road from us)
  18. Manangatang
  19. Diapur
  20. Smiggin Holes
  21. Orange
  22. The End of the World (And what a great place to be!)
  23. Useless Loop (Could it be a connected to Perpetual Loop in California?)
  24. Wee Waa
  25. Yackandandah

Now I know there are many other marvelous cities and towns to remember all around the world. But, rather than keep them to ourselves, I reckon we ought to spread the word about their wonderful eccentricity.  It’s time we gave them the recognition they so richly deserve!
