Are sneaky fees burning your budget?

Starbucks Hidden Fee and Other Sneaky Business

July 20th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 50 secs

If you feel like you’re spending money for nothing, you might be right.

Ah yes, the Starbucks hidden fee trick. Back in 2011, US based Starbucks charged a hidden additional $1.50 fee on half pound/250gm bags of coffee. Sneaky. The US Division of Standards certainly wasn’t impressed and charged the company $1575, for deceptive practice. Hardly a savage fine. If anything, more like a slap across the wrist with a wet tram ticket. But I expect Starbucks got its comeuppance through the bad press it generated. Read the rest of this entry »

When it comes to getting things done, ask a woman for her take on the situation.

Better Ask a Woman For Help

July 19th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 2 mins, 18 secs

Yes, women really do have added skills.

Women have the edge. Men are achievers, no question. But I have to say that, generally, if you want to get something done, you’re best to ask a woman for support (Or, as one young boy at school sagely advised me, “My Mother says ‘ask a women for something if you want to get it done.’”). Is a scam scheme or a fully legitimate business?

Is a Scam?

July 18th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 48 secs

Is a scam or a legitimate business?

Is a scam? From what I can tell, the penny bid business,, which caused such controversy, has disappeared from the face of the Internet. A listing on the unfortunately named search tool “Dogpile” reveals nothing is happening. So was a scam operation? Or was a legitimate business? Read the rest of this entry »

Could Mel and Bill Gates new toilet provide relief?

Bill Gates New Toilet To Go

July 16th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 48 secs

Mel & Bill Gates new toilet could be a life saver.

No, Bill and Mel haven’t had an expensive bathroom redo. Bill Gates new toilet plan is much grander than that. It’s an ambitious move to do what nobody has ever done before: make toilets that smell better, don’t rely on running water, provide a clean drinking supply, and maybe – just maybe – provide useful fuel. If that’s not enough, they want these toilets to be easy to install and cost no more than five cents per use. Read the rest of this entry »

How often are cool women in ads actually empowered?

Wanted: Ads’ Cool Women In More Realistic Roles

July 15th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 49 secs

Isn’t it time ad’s ‘cool women’ earned more diversity in their roles?

That’s the trouble with commercials. You rarely see ads’ cool women in credible roles. Instead, you’re more likely to see women in ads as slightly clueless or helpless, desperate to be rescued by a nifty new product or else some six-packed male hero. Read the rest of this entry »

Could Charlie Brown have happiness, despite his failures?

What Is Charlie Brown Happiness Based On?

July 15th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 46 secs

What is behind Charlie Brown’s happiness?

It’s sad that the innocence of Charlie Brown happiness based on  harmless fun is missing in so much of kid’s media today. That virtually bald-headed boy with the expressionless face in the Peanuts comic strip, along with his quirky kid friends, certainly captured something quintessential. Those little line drawings spoke about childhood, the pleasures of friendship, and the simple delight of ordinary life. Read the rest of this entry »

What is it about hand feeding newborn kittens?

Hand Feeding Newborn Kittens

July 13th, 2012 ~ Est. reading time: 1 min, 49 secs

Happily, hand feeding newborn kittens isn’t too hard.

I like animals, but I never thought I’d have any experience in hand feeding newborn kittens. Not that I’m any expert. Kitten wise, we’ve had a number. But, newborn kittens? On that front, my experience comes down to one. Read the rest of this entry »
